Army Specialist Michael Green
Army Specialist Michael Green enlisted in the military in January of 2003, shortly after finishing high school, because he wanted to serve his country.
Specialist Green was severely wounded in 2005, three months into his deployment, when the Humvee he was traveling in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Samarra, Iraq. Specialist Green lost his right arm above the elbow, and suffered a deep wound on his right leg. He spent about a year at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C. for rehabilitation and recovery.
For his service to his country, Specialist Green received the Purple Heart, U.S. Army/U.S. Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
After being medically discharged from the military in 2006, Specialist Green received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and worked four years for an organization that served the needs of his fellow veterans. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social work at the University of Southern California, and is on track to complete his studies in December of 2016.
Specialist Green and his wife Justina were gifted a mortgage-free home in Vero Beach, Florida in 2015.
